President Luis Abinader ordered strict controls in the National Police and the Armed Forces to avoid waste and mafias in the dispatch of fuels and other administrative areas. A recent Chamber of Accounts audit revealed significant irregularities in fuel transactions at the military and Police.
The President said that given the new findings, the Comptroller General of the Republic (as an internal control body) and the Chamber of Accounts (as an external control body) are carrying out constant investigations in the PN and the Armed Forces to establish transparency and control mechanisms.
An audit conducted by the Chamber of Accounts provided evidence that in the 2015-2017 period, the National Police invoiced and paid to Fuel America, the amount of 101,836 gallons of gasoline and 110,000 gallons of diesel, representing a total paid without evidence of receipts. The company is owned by the brother of former President Danilo Medina. At present, Alexis Medina is serving preventive custody in Najayo Jail as the state prosecutors investigate his involvement in a major government corruption network.
President Abinader said that the controls that are being established are precisely to prevent such situations from ever happening again.
