Dominican government proud of what has been done well in 2021

Understanding that 2021 was a rebound year for the Dominican Republic, the last meeting of the Council of Ministers met at the Presidential Palace with President Luis Abinader. Their reports on the economic recovery process indicate the country is firmly on the way to recovery. The economic indicators, such as poverty reduction and public debt are nearly at pre-pandemic levels, and the non-financial public debt is at only 4.8% of the GDP. The ministers pointed out all the good numbers.

According to Presidency Minister Lisandro Macarrulla, the national deficit will be less than 3%, when it was projected to be in the neighborhood of 4.6% of GDP.

According to Administrative Minister of the Presidency Jose Ignacio Paliza, the country’s credit ratings are improving, and this was another sign of recovery. Both Fitch and Standard & Poor improved their risk assessment of the Dominican Republic.

The ministers were also happy to announce the improvement of the nation’s standing regarding the fight against corruption. Paliza said the seven on-going corruption cases currently before the courts are proof of this effort recognized at the international level.
