Leones del Escogido and Aguilas Cibaeñas are playing today, 20 December 2021, in the Quisqueya-Juan Marichal ball park in Santo Domingo at 7:15pm. The teams are tied for the fourth-place slot in the six-team Dominican Winter Professional Baseball league (Lidom).
The Gigantes del Cibao won the regular season. The other teams that made the cut for the next round-robin are Estrellas Orientales and Tigres del Licey.
On Friday (17 December) night, the Leones de Escogido defeated the Gigantes del Cibao in the Julian Javier Stadium in San Francisco de Macoris. This victory brought the Leones back from near-certain elimination from the second phase round robin to an opportunity to send defending champions, the Aguilas Cibaeñas, to the “discard” heap. The “play-in” three-game series to decide the fourth spot in the round robin part of the tournament ended with the tie and forced the playing of the Monday, 20 December 2021 decisive game.
