There will be a National Census in 2022 with health protocols

ONE director Miosotis Rivas and 10th National Census director, Victor Romero

The 10th National Census of Population and Housing, normally taken every ten years, was supposed to have happened in 2020, but the pandemic and the national presidential elections teamed up to make this unfeasible. As a result, the census has been rescheduled for the fourth quarter of 2022.

According to Victor Romero, the head of the 10th National Census at the National Statistics Office (ONE), the census will provide a reliable number for the population and valuable information on housing and immigration. It will also measure birth rate and internet access.

The government has established strict protocols regarding the household visits by census takers and will use tablets to register and store the data. The budget for this important process is close to RD$3 billion.
