To do during the holidays: new trail at the National Botanical Gardens

Juan Tomás Tavares / Acento

The Educational Trail Foundation and the National Botanical Garden formally inaugurated the Educational Trail, a new ethnobotanical experience that covers an area of 90,000 square meters at the Santo Domingo botanical gardens.

The project’s mission is to educate society, especially young people, about the value of responsible and sustainable management of the environment. The visitors that walk the trail are introduced to the evolution of the flora of our island and the relationship of inhabitants to natural resources over time. The trail is described as “a place of healthy recreation with an educational character for the whole family.”

The trail is divided by stages and allows visitors to learn about the history, origin and evolution of our emblematic and endemic plants, their usefulness and different applications from pre-Columbian times to the present day.

The event is a collaboration of the Sendero Educativo Foundation, Karsten, H. Windeler, Juan Tomás Tavares, Frank Moya Pons and Ramón Crouch, among others.
