DNCD seizes 176 packages of cocaine off Barahona coasts

The National Drug Control Agency (DNCD), the Dominican Armada, with the support of state Intelligence agencies and the coordination of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, seized 176 packages, presumably cocaine, in a maritime and land interdiction operation, carried out in the southwestern province of Barahona.

The DNCD agents and Navy agents, following intelligence reports, intercepted the speedboat with the drugs several nautical miles south of Barahona coast.

Upon boarding the 25-foot-long boat, two Dominicans were arrested and seven bales containing 176 packages of the substance were seized.

The authorities have determined that the boat occupants, who will be sent to justice, arrived from South America.

“After receiving an alert, tactical and reaction units were mobilized along the entire coastline of Enriquillo and Oviedo, managing to thwart the entry of the shipment into the country,” states the press release.

The DNCD and the Public Prosecutor’s Office are expanding their investigations and are pursuing other individuals linked to this drug trafficking network operating in the southern part of the country.

The 176 packages were sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) to determine the type and exact weight of the substance.
