Charges against Baní woman abuser to be heard on Monday, 17 January

He had been on the run since 1 January 2022 when Alexis Villalona inexplicably beat up a woman on a small motorbike who moments before had collided into his vehicle in the first hours of 1 January. The woman had the right of way on the Baní street.

A video showed Alexis Villalona several times beating the woman, Santa Arias, who was practically in shock, until she finally collapsed on the Baní road. The video showed that Villalona was armed. Villalona and a woman who accompanied him sped away, leaving the battered woman abandoned on the road. Passersby who would have assisted the woman continued on their way because Villalona had a firearm.

Through his lawyer, Villalona had conditioned turning himself in to not being sent to the Baní main jail.

Villalona was instead arrested on 14 January 2022. He was taken to the Baní main jail to await his arraignment on Monday, 17 January 2022. Baní chief prosecutor Ángel Darío Tejada Fabal said the capture was possible in a joint effort of prosecutors and the National Police. The arrest reportedly occurred when he was trying to hide in the dwelling of a niece in El Fundo, Peravia.

Villalona, who had been wanted for the last 14 days, was apprehended by a police contingent led by lieutenant colonel Nelson Martinez, director of Criminal Investigations, in the province of Peravia.

Alexis Villalona is dubbed “el abusador de Baní.”

Santa Arias was taken to a battered women’s home in Baní where she is under care of the authorities. She had denounced having received threats and offers to negotiate her desisting from the case.
