The Dominican Republic is country partner of the International Tourism Fair (Fitur), the leading travel exhibition and hotel booking event for this 2022. President Luis Abinader is currently in Spain attending the Fitur that is taking place 19-23 January 2022 in Madrid. Fitur organizers announced the event would be in-person event with special Covid-19 protocols. Abinader will also meet with the head of the World Tourism Organization, Zurab Pololikashvili, and hoteliers who operate in the Dominican Republic. He is traveling with Tourism Minister David Collado.
Abinader has a full agenda for his five-day stay in Spain. In addition to attending Fitur, he is scheduled to meet with Spanish King, Felipe VI; the government head, Pedro Sanchez and the mayor of Madrid, Jose Luis Marinez Almeida.
N Digital reported that Abinader traveled on an Air Europa flight.
In the meantime, Vice President Raquel Peña is the acting head of state.
