With the approval of the Ministry of Public Health, schools in the Dominican Republic were opened on last Tuesday, 11 January 2022. However, the Dominican Teacher’s Association (ADP) called for public school teachers to boycott the opening due to the fifth wave of Covid-19 infections. Apparentlly, parents agreed with this position and kept their children home in droves.
According to the Listin Diario newspaper, there was only a 25% turnout of students in the Greater Santo Domingo area.
