New airline routes: Miami-Samana, Boston-Puerto Plata, more flights to Venezuela and Guadeloupe

JetBlue Airways has been cleared to operate 17 flights on the Boston-Puerto Plata-Boston route. The airline will be using a 186-passenger A320 for the BOS-POP flight. The flights will operate from January until 2 April 2022. This is a new route for JetBlue. Some 6,324 seats are added to the leading airline’s capacity to the Dominican Republic.

American Airlines received authorization to operate the Miami-Samana-Miami route. The start of the AZS-MIA frequency is scheduled for March 2022, with an initial operation of two flights per week. The airline requested to operate the flight from March 2022 to February 2023, adding capacity for another 8,056 seats.

The Civil Aviatio Board has authorized Sky High Aviation Services to fly to four destinations in Venezuela and to Guadeloupe from Santo Domingo’s Las Americas International (SDQ). The airline will be flying into Maracaibo, Valencia, Caracas, Margarita Island airports in Venezuela. The airline had mobilized 74,338 passengers in 4,196 inbound and outbound operations from January 2019 to October 2021.

Rutas Aereas (Rutaca Airlines) is authorized to operate three weekly flights on the Caracas/Puerto Plata/Caracas route, with an estimated 37,440 new seats during one year of operation. The airline mobilized 3,541 passengers in 294 inbound and outbound operations from January 2019 to October 2021 on charter routes.

In making the announcement, the president of the Civil Aviation Board, Jose Ernesto Marte Piantini said that the flights are new to country. “These routes are currently not being operated by any airline. And with their entry into operation to the country, we start the year with good actions for the country’s air connectivity,” he said.

The CAB also approved the codeshare request between Iberia Airlines of Spain and El Al Israel Airlines for the operating of the Madrid/Santo Domingo/Santo Domingo route during the winter season.

These new operations are in addition to the results obtained during 2021 which closed with the arrival of 4,995,412 tourists, of which 728,335 entered the country in December alone. The CAB reports that 134 airlines flew here from 154 airports around the world in 2021.
