Santo Domingo Mayor lauds success of plastic bottles for toys event

The city government of the National District (ADN) announced it collected more than 1,614,000 million plastic bottles in the bottles for toys exchange that took place on 16 January 2022. City Mayor Carolina Mejía said that they were able to deliver 2,840 toys to more than 3,000 families that participated in the exchange that sought to promote care for the environment and recycling. The number of bottles collected this year is 50% more than in 2021.

“With God’s blessing today we enjoyed the faces of the children who have come to get their toys. It is always timely to educate and the city and our environment are grateful for this effort because we are teaching the children that those little plastic bottles can have a new life cycle and not reach the ravines, the rivers and the sea,” said Mayor Mejía.

She also expressed her gratitude to the secretary general of the town council, Hugo Beras, for undertaking this project and for his dedication to make it a reality; to the collaborators of the different departments for their efforts; and to the sponsors “who have received us with so much love every time we knock on their doors”.
