President Luis Abinader toured the Cuatro Caminos area in Madrid, known for its many Dominican-owned businesses and home to many Dominican migrants. President Luis Abinader traveled to Madrid on 17 January 2022 to take part in the Fitur international travel trade show in which the Dominican Republic is the country partner this year. The event opens on 19 January.
The Presidency reported that during the walk through the Madrid area, the President stopped at some stores to meet Dominicans. As reported he tasted desserts at a sweets shop, met women at a beauty parlor, stopped at a mini-market and remittances agency. He posed for photos with several groups of people who greeted him with joy, reports the Presidency. Abinader was accompanied by Administrative Minister Jose Ignacio Paliza, the president of the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM).
President Luis Abinader is the candidate for presidency in the 2024 election. Spain is an important source of expat votes.
