People who have not received the Covid-19 booster shot should use the long weekend to get vaccinated. The shot is readily available at major vaccination centers nationwide.
Ministry of Public Health Resolution #69 mandates the booster shot will be needed to enter public places and use public transportation as of 31 January 2022.
The government vaccination data indicates that more than 5.7 million people of a target population of 7.8 million have received the first two shots, but only 1.6 million have received the booster shot. The vaccines are free in the Dominican Republic. There are around 1,400 vaccination centers and most offer the booster shot. The government recommends those that have received two Sinovac vaccines or two AstraZeneca vaccines to get a Pfizer booster. For those who have received two Pfizer shots, a Sinovac booster is recommended.
The Ministry of Public Health protocol establishes that if a person has had two doses of the vaccine and recently tested positive for Covid, a month long wait is recommended before the booster shot. If the wait coincides with the start of the booster shot requirement, a positive test proof needs to be presented to enter government offices or use public transportation.
Those that have received the vaccines abroad can show proof of this and need only to apply the third booster at any of the national vaccination centers.
