Farewell to Monsignor Núñez Collado, a lifetime of achievements

The Dominican Republic rendered tribute to Monsignor Agripino Núñez Collado, the low- profile giant who is credited for the success of the Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra with its Santiago and Santo Domingo campuses. Under his leadership, the Santiago university developed to become the most important private university in the country.

Núñez Collado is best known for a career as the national arbiter. He raised his influential voice marking a difference in numerous important conflicts nationwide through his lifelong career as rector of the PUCMM (1970 to 2014).

Media reported he died from complications from diverticulitis. He was born 9 September 1932 in Santiago province. He was the eldest of 11 brothers and sisters. He was ordained priest in Zamora, Spain in 1959.
