National Public Innovation Award is established by decree

Winners of last year’s award in August 2021 / MAPRE

The Presidency made official the National Award for Public Innovation of the Administrative Ministry of the Presidency (Mapfre). The first award was already granted in August 2021. The award seeks to encourage policies that promote the efficiency of public institutions.

This award is granted to public or private sector agents who propose innovative solutions with a view to cutting red tape in the Dominican Republic. It seeks to strengthen the institutional framework, optimize services and transparency in government.

For the awarding of the prize, President Luis Abinader appointed a selection committee, formed by the Vice Ministry of Innovation, Transparency and Citizen Attention of the Administrative Ministry of the Presidency, who will chair it; the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM and the Ministry of Economy. Other members are the National Competitiveness Council; the Government Office of Information and Communication Technologies (OGTIC); a representative of the private sector specialized in innovation; a representative of the private sector specialized in sustainability; a representative of the academic sector and a representative of the organized civil society.

The funds for the award will be determined each year by the Administrative Ministry of the Presidency. The Vice Ministry of Innovation, Transparency and Citizen Attention of the Administrative Ministry of the Presidency will draft the regulations for the award.

The winners of the first award in 2021 were: Proyecto Constelación, made up by José López, Bymairi de León, Laura Bencosme and Carlos Bejarán. These received scholarships and support for their project.
