
National District Court judge Raymundo Mejía is giving the state prosecution two more months as of 16 February 2022 to prepare the charges against the six accused in the Coral government corruption case. The prosecutors had sought an extension of four months.
After a hearing that lasted eleven hours on Tuesday, 25 January 2022, judge Raymundo Mejía granted the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca) the additional time to file definitive charges against Major General Adán Cáceres Silvestre, former chief of the Specialized Presidential Security Corps (Cusep); Colonel Rafael Núñez de Aza, Pastor Rossy Guzmán, Corporal Tanner Flete, Sergeant Alejandro Montero and Major Raúl Girón.
The judge ordered that five of the accused continue to serve preventive custody in Najayo Jail. Major Giron is under house arrest in a confidential location.
