
President Luis Abinader said during a press conference that unlike the United States and England, the Dominican Republic has not suffered a crisis of food scarcity during the pandemic. He attributed this to improved harvests in almost every category.
Minister of Agriculture Limber Cruz Lopez reported increases in poultry production, eggs, plantains, rice, potatoes, yucca and milk, and many lesser crops. Only garlic and pork production was down from previous years. Abinader said that price increases in locally produced items were mainly caused by overseas logistics and supply chain issues.
