Dominicans move to renew and get passports

The National Passports Agency tweeted that it issued over 100,000 more passports in 2021 than in the pre-pandemic year of 2019. Nevertheless, the 2020-2021 two-year passport average is under the total for the pre-pandemic 2019 . The number, nevertheless, reflects the stability in travel intentions of Dominicans.

In 2021 the passport agency’s local offices issued 422,922 passport booklets, including new passports and renewals. Add to this 108,284 passports processed by consulates abroad for a total of 531,206 passports in 2021, as reported in El Nuevo Diario.

In 2020, only 322,572 passports were issued. Given that people were in lockdown, many delayed in processing their passports until 2021.

Regardless, the total of 531,206 passports in 2021 is a new national record.

In 2019, the passports agency issued 465,192 booklets of which 78,753 were issued in consulates abroad.

When adding the totals of 322,572 for 2020 and 531,206 for 2021, and dividing by the two years, the average for the years is 426,889, below the 2019 total.
