New ambassadors for Brazil, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Egypt, India, Japan and Morocco

President Luis Abinader and Vice President Raquel Peña received the letters of credentials of the new ambassadors of Brazil, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Egypt, India, Japan and Morocco. Foreign Relations Minister Roberto Alvarez was also present for the ceremony at the Ambassadors Hall of the Presidential Palace. Several of the ambassadors have been working in the country for months now.

Brazil
Ambassador Renan Leite Paes Barreto had served as deputy chief of the Division of Exhibitions and Tourism in Brazil. He was also first and second secretary of the Brazilian Embassy in France, counselor of the Brazilian Embassy in the United Kingdom and deputy consul general in New York.

Costa Rica
Ambassador Edwin Arias Chinchilla has been a career diplomat since May 2001. He was Ambassador-at-Large to the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York and deputy director of Costa Rica’s Foreign Policy. Arias Chinchilla has a postgraduate degree in Multilateral Diplomacy from the Institute of Higher International Studies of Switzerland. He also has a postgraduate degree in European Integration Studies from the Mexico College in Mexico and a Master’s Degree in International Relations with emphasis on Peace Promotion, Cooperation and Integration. Ecuador
Ambassador Santiago Martinez Espindola represents Ecuador. In May 1981, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Relations serving as director of International Organizations and first secretary in the General Human Rights Department. He also held various positions in the Europe Department. At the time of his appointment, he was ambassador at the service of the Ministry of Foreign Relations.

Egypt
The Arab Republic of Egypt is represented by Maher El-Adawy, a career diplomat, who joined the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1985. He is a third generation diplomat. He has worked in Egyptian missions in various nations, holding diplomatic roles in Germany, Uruguay, Ghana, Yemen, Ethiopia. He represented Egypt on assignments at the German Institute for International Development at Boston University in 1992.

Ambassador Ramu Abbagani has been a career diplomat since 2001. He served as second secretary at the Embassy of India in Japan, from 2003 to 2007 and undersecretary (Park-I) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in New Delhi, from 2007 to 2010. At the time of his appointment, he was Shri Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Japan
The new Ambassador of Japan is Takagi Masahiro, who joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan in April 1981. He has served as principal deputy director of the Terrorism Prevention Division, Consular and Migration Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Secretariat. In 2007 he moved to the foreign service as first secretary at the Embassy of Japan in Honduras. Prior to his appointment he served as consul general in Curitiba, Brazil.

Morocco
Ambassador Hichame Dahane has served as secretary of Foreign Affairs at the United Nations and International Organizations Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Morocco. He has been political counselor at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Washington D.C. and head of division of the Affairs of the Arab Maghreb Union.

At the credentials presentation ceremony, the diplomatic representatives were received with military honors and the band of the First Dominican Regiment Presidential Guard played the anthems of their respective countries.
