
After a two-year suspension, the National Carnival Parade is back. The Ministry of Culture announces that the traditional carnival parade will take place along the Malecon of Santo Domingo Sunday, 6 March 2022. Culture Minister Milagros German says the 2022 Carnival is dedicated to Cotuí, a municipality in the province of Sánchez Ramírez that has one of the oldest carnivals in the country. The Santo Domingo carnival is the true national carnival with representations from the best in carnival from all over the country.
The Ministry says that comedian Cuquín Victoria and choreographer and folklore dance professor Marily Gallardo are the king and queen of the 2022 Carnival.
The Ministry of Public Health has approved the celebration. The protocol calls for mask wearing, vaccination cards will be requested and social distancing.
La Vega had postponed their carnival. Santiago has announced carnival will take place on special area off the Santiago Monument. Punta Cana announced it is postponing its carnival.
