The Ministry of Interior & Police issues new guidelines for firearms licenses, ballistic tests

The Ministry of Interior & Police extended the firearms license period for another six months. The extension of the validity of the license to carry and possess firearms applies to firearm licensees that are up to date with their tax renewal payments. Resolution MIP-RR-0001-2022 establishes that the six month extension benefit is only for individuals and legal entities whose licenses would have expired between 1 December 2020 and 31 December 2021.

Persons whose firearm possession and carrying licenses have expired within the indicated period must have with them the expired license, together with the proof of payment of the corresponding fees for renewal when carrying the firearm.

The Ministry of Interior & Police says that firearm users need to continue their respective renewal procedures despite the extension.

The Ministry of Interior with Resolution MIP-RR-0003-2022 authorized the extending from one to two years of capturing ballistic fingerprints. A network of laboratories for doping tests is being set up to facilitate the service. The authorized labs have 10 days as of Tuesday, 1 February 2022 to be accredited, after complying with the requirements of the License of Authorization issued by the Ministry of Public Health.

Resolution MIP-RR-0003-2022 makes it clear that currently authorized laboratories may continue providing the service, but must regularize their documentation before the Interior and Police, if necessary, for which they have a term of 30 days as of Tuesday, 1 February 2022.
