Medical tourism is a major industry in the Dominican Republic. Santiago is a leader in attracting foreign customers and patients for quality medical services at a lower cost.
The Metropolitan Hospital of Santiago (HOMS), a major private medical center in Santiago, recently received a RD$45 million loan from the Banco de Reservas, the government commercial bank, to improve its Health & Wellness Center that caters to foreigners. A hotel, conference hall, hundreds of doctors’ offices, and a small shopping center will be added to the Health & Wellness Center facilities. Overall, the new facilities will cost nearly RD$79 million.
