FIBA Basketball qualifier at the Palacio de los Deportes

Canada, Bahamas, the Virgin Islands and Dominican Republic national basketball teams will play in the first qualifying window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 to take place 26 and 27 February 2022 at the Palacio de los Deportes in Santo Domingo. The Dominican Republic has yet to announce its team roster.

Teams from the Americas seek to qualify for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 through six tournament windows over 15 months, including the February window in Santo Domingo. The Qualifiers run from November 2021 to February 2023, with national sides playing home and away games in these event windows. At the end, seven countries from the Americas will earn a spot to compete at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023.

The Dominican Republic plays in Group C with Bahamas, Canada and the Virgin Islands.

The Santo Domingo window games are:

26 February 2022 – Palacio de los Deportes, Santo Domingo
Bahamas vs Virgin Islands at 3pm
Canada vs Dominican Republic at 6pm

27 February 2022 – Palacio de los Deportes, Santo Domingo
Canada vs Virgin Islands at 3pm
Bahamas vs. Dominican Republic at 6pm.

The series next continues on Friday, 1 July when Virgin Islands plays Bahamas and Dominican Republic plays Canada. The phase continues on 4 July when the Dominican Republic plays Bahamas and Virgin Island plays Canada.

The countries by groups are:
Group A: Argentina, Panama, Paraguay, Venezuela
Group B: Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Uruguay
Group C: Bahamas, Canada, Dominican Republic, Virgin Islands
Group D: Cuba, Mexico, Puerto Rico and USA
