Works start on the Metro Line 2 to Los Alcarrizos

President Luis Abinader was at the Duarte Km. 9 mark for the symbolic start of construction of the extension of the Metro Line 2C to Los Alcarrizos in northern Santo Domingo. The project is defined as the most important infrastructure work to be carried out by the Abinader administration (2020-2024). The overall cost is estimated at US$506 million. The extension of Line 2 will add five stations and will connect from María Montez station on John F. Kennedy Avenue all the way to Los Alcarrios in northern Santo Domingo.

The new section will have 7.3 kilometers, of which 800 meters will be underground. An elevated viaduct of 6.5 kilometers long will be built to connect to the capital city.

The first stop will be in Manoguayabo, the second at Monumental Avenue, the third at the 27 de Febrero extension point, the fourth in Pantoja Km 14 and the fifth at a new terminal to be built at the entrance to Los Alcarrizos, where riders may take the new cable car.

The government is already building the Metro-Skylift in the area. The cable car is scheduled to be completed by 2023. The Metro Line extension will be completed by 2024.

The road works are directly benefiting the more than one million residents that live in the neighborhoods and towns north of the National District. These include Barrio Enriquillo, Ciénaga de Manoguayabo, La Venta, La Isabela, Independencia, Pueblo Chico, Don Honorio, Barrio Los Angeles, Villa Naco, Los Girasoles, Los Peralejos, Pantoja and Los Alcarrizos.
