The Civil Aviation Board (JAC) in the Dominican Republic says that JetBlue’s pilot run of the Boston/Puerto Plata/Boston route has been successful. As of 8 January 2022, the airline was authorized through a special permit to explore the feasibility of the route. The company now has requested the route be included regularly in its operating permit. Regular flights on the Boston/Puerto Plata route are now scheduled to begin on 7 May 2022, with a frequency of Saturday flights until December 2022.
The JAC also says that Plus Ultra Líneas Aéreas will be operating the Madrid/Santo Domingo/Madrid. The low-cost carrier will compete with Air Europa and Iberia. The airline will fly Airbus A340 aircraft with capacity of 275 to 360 passengers, with a frequency of four flights a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. The airline expects to transport 42,900 passengers approximately during the first year of operation.
“With the opening of these and other air routes, the Dominican Republic continues to strengthen as a tourist destination and for trade in the region, and more and more Dominicans have access to their destinations with greater competitiveness,” said José Ernesto Marte Piantini, president of the JAC.
