Perhaps a new set of rules for employment agencies

Employment agencies in the Dominican Republic are only minimally supervised by government or by the Ministry of Labor. Companies and individual who dedicate themselves to finding work for others generally demand a percentage of the first wage/wages for their work.

Now, the Ministry of Labor has released a draft proposal with a set of rules for these people. Perhaps the most important regulation will be that these headhunters may not charge the person who is employed due to their efforts. All individuals or companies that are in the business of jobs for people looking for employment will have to be registered with the ministry. The paperwork will produce a permit that is valid for two years. One of the interesting things in the proposal is the clarification that internships are not to be considered jobs per se in the company. Therefore, there is no labor relationship between the intern and the company.

Of course, the proposal strongly prohibits discrimination, be it age, sex, national origin, etc. The only criteria for refusing to consider a person for a job would be a lack of qualifications or experience needed for the post.
