DR team prepares for Basketball Qualifier

The DR seeks to make it to the Second Qualifying Window for the 2023 Basketball World Cup. The national basketball team is now finalizing its training for the 26 and 27 February 2022 qualifier games that will take place at the Palacio de los Deportes in Santo Domingo.

In Group C, Canada and the Dominican Republic are undefeated. The DR also plays Virgin Islands and Bahamas in this group.

The DR will play Canada on Saturday, 26 February and the Bahamas on Sunday, 27 February, starting at 6pm at the Palacio de los Deportes.

Coach Melvyn López is in charge of the training sessions at the Palacio de los Deportes Profesor Virgilio Travieso Soto.

Dominican team members Angel Luis Delgado, Rigoberto Mendoza, Juan Guerrero, Juan Miguel Suero, Angel Nunez, Adonis Henriquez, Luis David Montero, Richard Bautista, Bryan Martinez and Yassel Perez were at the training session.

“We are going with great enthusiasm and commitment to win these two matches on Saturday and Sunday to raise our record to 4-0 in Group C of the Americas in the 2023 World Cup Qualifiers, which we share with the Virgin Islands, Canada and the Bahamas,” said Lopez.

“We seek to make it to our third straight participation in a World Basketball Championship, after attending Spain 2014 and China 2019,” said Lopez.

NBA player Chris Duarte of the Indiana Pacers says that he would join the team if the team qualifies for the World Championship.
