To spread the news on the direct flights now available from leading Texas cities to the Dominican Republic, the Ministry of Tourism took its DRTours roadshow to Houston, Texas, on 17 February 2022. A presentation was made to more than 300 tour operators and travel agencies in the state of Texas.
Tourism Minister David Collado participates in the roadshow. The roadshow is carried out to make available first-hand information on the country’s state of recovery, destinations and attractions.
The state of Texas has been identified as a location of interest by the Ministry of Tourism as it ranks third in all travel bookings originating from the United States in 2022, with 9% of the total booked volume.
Travel Pulse reports that the roadshow is part of the new Dominican tourism management strategy to reconnect, relaunch and reposition the Dominican Republic as a tourist destination. The Minister of Tourism has already held five DRTours in the United States, in New York, Miami, Orlando, Atlanta and Chicago.
During the visit to Texas, Minister Collado held meetings with airlines, tour operators, travel agents and travel agency associations. The Ministry of Tourism reports that several goals were accomplished during the gatherings — identifying marketing opportunities, opening new routes, designing direct marketing campaigns, and increasing existing routes.
Air access from Texas has improved. Recently, American Airlines added a direct flight from Dallas. In the past, travelers had to make a stopover in Puerto Rico or Florida.
