The Dominican Republic has a surplus of Covid-19 vaccines. This is the result of onerous contracts that had to be signed with suppliers of the Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines. When these pharmaceutical companies were late in delivering the vaccines, the DR contracted with the Chinese Sinovac vaccines. Now, Vice President Raquel Peña, the Health Cabinet coordinator, says the country is willing to donate the surplus vaccines before they expire, but takers need to be found.
Vice President Raquel Peña again urges Dominicans to get their two jabs and the booster shot. The pace of vaccination is at an all-time low. Getting vaccinated has been easy here, with upwards of 1,300 centers installed all around the country.
The record vaccinations for one day is 184,208 on 10 June 2021. For the 21 February 2022 deadline, Our World in Data reports 14,835 first and second dose vaccines were applied. The rolling 7-day average is again declining and as of 21 February 2022 deadline is now at 16,739, down from the previous day.
