Edesur installs street lighting on west side of the Malecon

The Empresa Distribuidora de Electricidad del Sur (Edesur) has installed new lighting on the Autopista 30 de Mayo, the 5 km western section of the Santo Domingo sea-bordering 14-km long Malecon. The installation of the lighting on the highly transited avenue is part of the major effort by the National District power distribution company to improve street lighting.

The Malecón lighting was extended from Av. Núñez de Cáceres to the San Cristóbal toll booth.

Edesur reports that 4.6 km of power lines, seven transformers, 77 poles and LED luminaires are being installed in the city section. The work is being carried out with a specialized brigade of 60-foot bucket trucks, due to the height of the public lighting poles.

The Mar Caribe Neighborhood Board president, César Balbí, welcomed the start of these works and said community members, passers-by, and drivers had been requesting better lighting since 2016.

The general manager of Edesur, Milton Morrison explained the effort is in collaboration with the National District Mayor’s Office and is part of the national security strategy implemented by the Abinader administration. Edesur is a government entity.

Previously, the eastern side of the Malecón was illuminated. On 8 February 2022, Edesur had announced the installation of new lighting on the Maximo Gomez Avenue.
