Leading Dominican investigative journalist and newscaster Addis Burgos (“Descalificado con Addis Burgos” on CDN, Channel 37) and her family saved their lives in a major traffic incident on Saturday, 26 February 2022. Her vehicle was totaled.
The event occurred when she was driving on the San Cristobal-Bani highway stretch with her husband, daughter and son, together with a crew of CDN TV onwards to Elías Piña to make donations to a very low-income family.
Boxes from a pick-up truck part of the CDN caravan of seven vehicles fell to the 6 de Noviembre highway. A passing motorcyclist swerved to catch one, causing his gas tank to fall off, colliding with the journalist’s vehicle and resulting in a blaze. The family was able to get out in time with minor burns. The vehicle was totaled.
Burgos and her son suffered minor burns. Her daughter and husband got out of the vehicle unharmed.
Despite the incident, the journalist decided to complete her mission in Elías Piña, considering the family made it out alive for a reason.
