Former first national ballerina Mary Louise Ventura was arrested on 24 February 2022, suspect of attempted murder against fellow dancer friend Patricia Ascuasiasti. Both are senior citizens.
The two dancers were returning to Santo Domingo from Montecristi when Ascuasiasti suffered major injuries in a confusing vehicle incident. Ventura is now accused of voluntarily running over Ascuasiasti during the 15 February 2022 incident. The dancers had stopped on the road to change drivers. The two dancers are long-time colleagues and friends.
Ventura faces charges of up to 20 years in jail.
