The Civil Aviation Board (JAC) announced the signing of an agreement with Costa Rica for the strengthening of air transport for tourism and trade. It is expected to result in the opening of new routes between both countries. The agreement was signed during the 13th Air Transport Services Negotiations Conference (ICAN/2021).
The agreement was signed by Dominican Foreign Relations Minister Roberto Álvarez and his Costa Rican counterpart, Rodolfo Solano Quirós. The negotiations were led by Jose Ernesto Marte Piantini, president of the Civil Aviation Board in the Dominican Republic and his counterpart in Costa Rica, William Rodriguez, vice president of the Technical Council of Civil Aviation.
The document contemplates the multiple designation of airlines; that both countries grant each other traffic rights of up to sixth freedom of the air for passenger, mail, cargo or combined flights; and traffic rights of seventh freedom of the air for cargo flights.
In addition, the agreement allows for non-scheduled or charter operations and establishes commercial cooperation agreements between airlines.
