Ukrainian tourists stuck in DR

After their return flights to Ukraine were canceled, around 2,000 Ukrainian tourists need to be relocated from the hotels where they stayed in Punta Cana and Bayahibe. The honorary Ukrainian consul, Ilona Oleksandrivna
says the Russian tour operator, Anex Tour is not assisting the travelers that are now stranded here, as reported by EFE news agency..

EFE news agency reports that one option for up to 80 is the baseball training center in El Seibo, north of Punta Cana. The sports training center was set up by the late Dominican baseball player, Toronto Blue Jays catcher Tony Fernandez and is operated by a non-governmental organization. The sports center has yet to be fitted with beds and other items.

The Ukrainian tourists would be stuck here after traveling despite escalating the situation in Russia and Ukraine.

Aeroflot and Azur Air have already announced flight cancellations after Russia invaded Ukraine. Upwards of 6,000 Ukrainian tourists flew to the country in February 2022.

Meanwhile, there are reports of four Dominicans being relocated to Poland from Ukraine through efforts of the Dominican Embassies in Germany and Russia.
