Dominican Republic National Day at Expo Dubai world fair on 5 March; Vice President Raquel Peña travels to Dubai for the event

Vice President Raquel Peña traveled on 1 March 2022 to Dubai via Madrid to participate in the Expo Dubai 2020 world fair. The Dominican Republic has a stand at the fair where it presents its export products, investment potential, and tourism attractions.

The fair has been open since October 2021. Vice President Peña will be present for the National Day of the Dominican Republic that is on 5 March 2022.

The aim of the world fair is to stimulate foreign investment and the participating nations’ economic, cultural, and scientific growth, building new paradigms for sustainability and technological transformation.

To get fair participants in the mood, on Friday, 4 March a Merengue and Bahata Dance Class is scheduled from 5pm to 6pm at the Sea Stage of the fair grounds.

The official opening of the National Day will then be on Saturday, 5 March at 10:15 at the Al Wasl Plaza. A Country Business Briefing follows the event from 2:30 to 5:30pm at the Business Connect Centre.

On the occasion of the National Day of the Dominican Republic, a high-level Dubai delegation will attend the Dominican pavilion and participate in the various cultural activities scheduled.

The National Day will culminate with a 15-minute video about the Dominican Republic that will be shown in the pavilion’s dome, the largest 360 projection in the world, located in Al Wasl Plaza.

The Dominican pavilion is set up to motivate tourism, investment and business. The Presidency reports it has received around 5,000 visitors per day.

The Presidency reports that during the Vice President’s stay in Dubai through Sunday, 6 March, she will hold meetings to promote Dominican exports, foreign direct investment and strengthen commercial relations between the two nations.

Cultural events at the Expo Dubai also include the performances by Edgar Molina and Riccie Oriach accompanied by instruments representing Dominican music, and choreographed dance organized by Héctor Farías, director of the Dominican Ballet in Europe, with dancers attired in typical Dominican costumes.

The Presidency reports that the country’s participation in Expo Dubai 2020 has allowed the Dominican Republic to showcase its national potential to participants from 190 countries that are attending the world fair that is lasting six months.

The exhibition’s objective is to stimulate the economic, cultural and scientific growth of the participating nations. It is held every five years; the first one was held in London in 1851, more than 170 years ago. An estimated 15 million visitors have attended this edition of Expo Dubai 2020.
