“Armoured Yola” service gets caught off Puerto Rico

US Border Patrol agents from Ramey Station in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico seized an 18-foot, homemade outboard boat off the shores of Puerto Rico. They found nearly US$350,000 in cash, handguns, cell phones and a GPS unit on board. They arrested three Dominicans and one US citizen. The US Border Patrol used modern radars and patrol aircraft to detect the travelers.

According to reports, the seized craft did not have any running lights and this caused suspicion. The base at Ramey, a former Strategic Air Command base for B-52 bombers during the Cold War, is now the only Border Patrol station outside of the territorial United States. They cover some 6,000 square miles of land and water in and around Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
