
The Ministry of Foreign Relations reports that only four Dominicans remain in Ukraine. The Dominicans say they cannot leave for business and family reasons. These remain of the 16 Dominicans that were in Ukraine at the start of the war two weeks ago.
Not all of the Dominicans who were evacuated from Ukraine will return to the Dominican Republic, reports Diario Libre. The Dominicans may opt to benefit from migration programs for the evacuees in different European countries, Jatzel Román, Vice Minister of Foreign Relations for Consular and Migratory Affairs.
He said so far only one Dominican has returned to the country since the war between Ukraine and Russia began 14 days ago. Román said another Dominican is expected to return on Sunday, 13 March 2022.
Dominicans have left through Slovakia, Poland, Hungary and Moldavia.
Foreign Minister Roberto Alvarez says a flight from Russia to Punta Cana is being used for repatriation purposes of both Russians to Russia and Latin Americans living in Russia to Latin American countries.
Alvarez estimated at around 70 the Dominicans who reside in Russia of around 120. Most of these say they will stay in Russia to complete their studies there and then return.
