Women are in charge of justice departments in the capital city and 14 provinces, almost half of the total provinces, under Attorney General Miriam German Brito, reports N Digital. The number two at the Attorney General Office is also a woman, Yeny Berenice Reynoso, who is adjunct prosecutor and director of the Public Ministry Prosecution Service.
Miriam German Brito became the first woman to hold the position of attorney general in the Dominican Republic when she was appointed on 16 August 2020 with the start of the Abinader administration.
On occasion of the Day of the Public Prosecutor, Attorney General Miriam German reaffirmed the commitment of the office to zero impunity. President Luis Abinader had stated on 8 March 2022 during an interview with eight women journalists on occasion of International Women’s Day that he could not guarantee that officials in his government would not commit corruption, but he could commit that there would not be impunity for corruption.
“This vision of the system is what has allowed us to generate in society the level of trust that the Public Prosecutor’s Office exhibits today at all levels. An institution that before was reactive to organized and white-collar crime, today is a step ahead by showing a firm commitment to institutionalism and zero tolerance to impunity,” said German Brito, speaking on 9 March, the day that commemorates the work of public prosecutors.
The list of women prosecutors in the Dominican Republic is:
Rosalba Ramos, National District

On Public Prosecutor’s Day, Attorney General Miriam German honored four prosecutors with more than 30 years in the career. These were: Ana María Burgos Crisóstomo (45 career years), Gisela Altagracia Cueto González (38 career years), Casilda Báez Acosta (35 career years) and Ramona Nova (30 career years).
“We are aware of the many challenges we face, as we carry the stigma of past mistakes. But we can only stick to our commitment to honor the trust placed in us to make the dream of a country in which justice is not a dead letter and to make a reality that there are consequences beyond public scorn,” she said after laying a wreath at the Altar of the Homeland to celebrate the National Day of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
