
Vice President Raquel Peña says the Dominican Republic has the lowest Covid-19 mortality rate in the world at 0.4%. She made the announcement after official Covid-19 bulletins for three days straight have been reporting zero deaths.
Vice President Peña participated in the opening of the Health Fair in Moca, Espaillat province. The fair promoted healthy lifestyles to prevent sicknesses in general.
She indicated that promoting a culture of healthy lifestyles and disease prevention is a priority of the government.
During the event, Public Health Minister Daniel Rivera said that the country has been successful in tackling Covid-19. He mentioned the low positivity rate, the low occupancy of Covid-19 beds in hospitals and the dropping number of active cases.
The first health fair organized by the Ministry of Public Health took place in Moca, Espaillat. Dr. Rivera pointed out that while Covid-19 is declining in the province, more than 60% of the population is overweight, and 23% has diabetes.
The health fair was supported by the National Health Service (SNS), National Health Insurance (Senasa), Ministry of Agriculture, INTRAN, INESPRE, National Hemocenter, Agricultural Bank, Provincial Government and other entities, Cabinet of Social Policies and other entities.
There were donations of agricultural products, medicines, wheelchairs, sunglasses and other products.
