President Luis Abinader attended the inauguration of President Gabriel Boric Font of Chile and both statesmen took time to hold a bilateral meeting to discuss strengthening of relations and cooperation last Thursday, 10 March 2022. President Abinader returned late on Friday, 11 March 2022 to the Dominican Republic.
President Abinader invited President Gabriel Boric Font to visit the Dominican Republic in Chile. Abinader shared with the press that President Boric Font has already been in the Dominican Republic where he and his family vacationed at a Punta Cana resort.
There is a population of 25,115 Dominicans in Chile. This is 45% of Dominicans that live in South America, according to the Institute of Dominicans Abroad (Index).
Diario Libre recalls that former President of Chile, Eduardo Frei of the Chile Foreign Trade Agency visited the country in early March 2022 to begin talks for a free trade agreement between both countries.
During the inaugural, Foreign Ministers Roberto Álvarez of the Dominican Republic and Roberto Holguín of Ecuador signed an aviation agreement to improve travel and trade.
