To facilitate trade and eliminate technical barriers to binational trade between the Dominican Republic and Haiti, the director of the Dominican Institute for Quality (Indocal), Lorenzo Ramirez, and his counterpart, the director of the Haitian Bureau of Standards (BHN), Monorde Civil, held a working meeting and endorsed the agreements for the harmonization of standards and quality systems between the two countries.

The meeting is part of the Haiti-Dominican Republic Binational Cooperation Program, promoted by the Caribbean Export Development Agency, Caribbean Export, with financing from the European Union Development Fund, to improve the quality of products from both countries and make companies more competitive.

On Monday, 14 March 2022 both institutions agreed to develop an action plan and established a work schedule for the period 2022-2023, which will focus on harmonizing standards for five products in the three selected value chains: cocoa, essential oils/cosmetics and handicrafts, including labeling requirements and technical exchange in the area of metrology between the two countries.

As part of the joint activities, on-site training for technical exchange on the calibration of scales and volumetric standards will be organized.

The director of the Haiti-DR binational program of Caribbean Export, Jean-Marc Dioulo, and the deputy executive director of Caribbean Export, Leonel Naut were present for the agreement signing.

DP World Caucedo recently announced the availability of a freight ship for cargo between the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
