Thursdays: Fresh produce sales days

Five large supermarket chains will now sell products of the basic food basket at the same prices as the Price Stabilization Institute (Inespre) on Thursdays. The effort seeks to cushion the impact of the international crisis on local prices. Food prices will be around 30% less at the more than 120 participating stores.

The campaign “Compra a Precio del Inespre en el Supermercado” will start on 17 Thursday March 2022 and last for three months in the first phase. Sales are restricted to one combo per person while stocks last.

Iván Hernández Guzmán, director of Inespre, said the RD$1,000 combos include: rice (10 lbs), pinto beans (800 grams), oil (16 oz), carton of eggs (30 units), among other items.

“Every Thursday, housewives and the general public will be able to go to the supermarkets, look for the cashier lines identified with the name of the campaign, buy their products included in the combo or separately and at the time of payment provide the cashier with their identity card number, to keep a record of the sale,” said Hernandez Guzman.

The Strategic and Special Projects Agency of the Presidency (Propeep), the Institute of Price Stabilization (Inespre) and the supermarket chains Grupo CCN (Jumbo and Nacional), Hipermercados Olé, Grupo Ramos (Pola and La Sirena), Bravo, Hipermercados La Fuente, Hipermercados Zaglul and Almacenes Iberia signed the agreement.
