New director to be named to National Social Security Council; impasse with Minister of Labor

Felix Aracena Vargas / CNSS

An impasse at the National Social Security Council (CNSS) brought to the open after a report in Listin Diario has resulted in the departure of the general manager. The CNSS is the governing body of the Dominican Social Security System. Monico Sosa, a member of the CNSS, explained the differences for the story in Listin Diario.

The second in charge would be named to the position. But, Listin Diario reports that Marilyn Rodríguez, too, could be part of the problem because she was a close aide to the former director, according to whistle-blower Monico Sosa.

As explained in Listin Diario, differences between the Ministry of Labor Luis Miguel de Camps and director Felix Aracena Vargas resulted in the CNSS not meeting for five months. De Camps presides the council. The last meeting was on 9 December 2021. The lack of activity has affected social security holders.

The plenary of the organization is scheduled to meet on Thursday, 17 March 2022 in an extraordinary session to swear in the current deputy manager as acting director.

The general manager is responsible for implementing agreements and resolutions taken by the National Social Security Council (CNSS). Felix Aracena Vargas had been sworn in as general director at the start of the Abinader administration on 23 September 2020.
