President Luis Abinader flew to San José, Costa Rica at 7am on Monday, 21 March 2022 to participate in the Third Summit of the Alliance for Development in Democracy. In Costa Rica, he will meet with President Laurentino Cortizo Cohen of Costa Rica, President Carlos Alvarado Quezada of Panama. The previous meetings were in Panama and the Dominican Republic. The alliance began after the three heads of government met during the UN General Assembly in September 2021. The alliance parallels the Dominican Pro Tempore Presidency of SICA that the Dominican Republic holds this year.
The three countries have become an active bloc to discuss political, economic, business and migratory regional issues.
The Presidency says that this meeting will be attended by US Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy and Environment, Jose Fernandez.
President Abinader is scheduled to be back in the Dominican Republic late in the evening. He is accompanied by Foreign Relations Minister Roberto Alvarez, Hacienda Minister Jochi Vicente and Industry & Commerce Minister Victor (Ito) Bisonó.
