The Dominican Republic is working on improving its relations with Vietnam. A note published in Vietnam Plus mentions the participation of Dominican ambassador to Vietnam Francisco Rodriguez in an event honoring former President Juan Bosch.
Ambassador Rodriguez attended the unveiling of a statue to Juan Bosch on 17 March at Hoa Binh (Peace) Park in Hanoi. To honor the late leader of Vietnam, a Ho Chi Minh park and monument had first been unveiled in Santo Domingo capital in February 2013.
The ambassador stressed that the close relations date back to the time when former President Juan Bosch met with then Vietnam President Ho Chi Minh in 1965 when he visited Hanoi to attend a conference on Latin American countries’ solidarity with Vietnam.
The DR and Vietnam have had diplomatic ties since 7 July 2005. Yet, Rodriguez is the first Dominican ambassador to be sent to Vietnam.
Rodriguez expressed his honor to be appointed as the first ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Vietnam, adding that preparations are being made for the inauguration of his country’s embassy in Hanoi, which will mark an important milestone in bilateral relations.
He also voiced his hope for stronger cooperation in multiple fields such as diplomacy, trade, science, sports, culture, tourism, telecommunications, and agriculture.
