Pepe Goico denies he was promoted to general

Manuel Sierra, the lawyer of Pedro Julio (Pepe) Goico Guerrero, the former chief of the security for President Hipolito Mejia, says it is not true his defendant had been promoted to general and retired. The remarks of the promotion and retirement had been made by former Minister of Defense Ruben Dario Paulino Sem. The lawyer says that if that were true, his defendant would not be demanding that he be reinstated into the force. The lawyer says he wants to see the decree with the promotion and retirement.

The Superior Administrative Court (TSA) ordered the Ministry of Defense to reinstate Goico. The TSA is the government court that reviews government administrative actions. The case will be heard at the next meeting of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, yet no date has been set.

Then colonel Goico was retired during the Leonel Fernandez administration when he had 19 years, 11 months and five days of service, just short of the 20 year retirement requirement.

El Dia has reported that the lawyer’s claim that Goico “has never received a single cent”, ignores that in 2019 the Retirement Board of the Armed Forces compensated him with RD$5 million and recognized that he receive a pension of RD$70,000, the level corresponding with a general.
