
The judge hearing the case of fraudulent transactions with the government Supérate social assistance program issued coercive measures. Three were sent to serve three months of preventive detention at the Najayo Men and Women Jail – Ydalisis Maribel Lopez, Yanilda Altagracia Rodriguez Herrera and Jonathan Martinez. Bernaldo Santiago Hernandez Concepcion were allowed to post a RD$100,000 bail and RD$80,000 for Juana Felicia Guillén and Odalia Florentino.
Judge Bernardo Coplín who imposed the preventive measures declared the case complex, as requested by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, through the Santo Domingo East Prosecutor’s Office and the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office Against Crimes and High Technology Crimes.
The fraud affected the beneficiaries of Superate cards. These are issued to the vulnerable and elderly for purchases of food. The millionaire fraud deprived the real beneficiaries of the money they would have received through the government welfare program.
The investigation focuses on fraudulent transactions detected from 18 to 20 February during non-working hours, in clear violation of the Social Supply Network (RAS) Regulations of the program managed by the ADESS government office.
The fraudulent and irregular transactions were carried out in the following stores: Súper Colmado Gael, Colmado Melinda, Almacén El Pache, Colmado Paola, Súper Colmado Jhonsy, Colmado Saray, Súper Colmado Gloria, Colmado Juana, Colmado Hernández and Colmado Michael.
Senator Aris Yvan Lorenzo (Elías Piña-Dominican Liberation Party) says the accused are the little guys and not yet those who sold the data so far. “In Supérate impunity has found the glory. This will remain in the humble hives; it will not reach the white-collar who sold the data. RD$300 million of the food of the poor. We are changing!” says the PLD spokesman in the Senate. “We are changing” is the slogan of the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM).
