
The president of the Official Chamber of Commerce of Spain, Francisco (Paco) Pérez presented results of 2021 on 23 March 2022. He highlighted the strong trade relations between the Dominican Republic and Spain. He expressed his hope that the global conflicts will not affect the flow of direct investments nor tourists. Spanish Ambassador Antonio Perez-Hernandez and counselor minister Clara Fernandez were present for the presentation.
Perez said that the trade between both countries was of €693.5 million. The breakdown is €586 million in imports from Spain and €97.4 million in Dominican exports.
The three main products imported from Spain by the country were ceramics €88.5 million, mechanical equipment €46 million and electrical material €$32.5 million; while the Dominican Republic exported beverages, optical devices €16.2 million, pharmaceuticals, cacao and coffee.
He highlighted that the Dominican Republic receives more than 150,000 tourists per year from Spain and is one of the nations in the region with the highest Spanish direct investment.
