Social Security Council extends accident coverage until June

The National Social Security Council (CNSS) has extended the coverage of traffic accident injuries in the public hospitals and clinics until June 2022. This coverage is for persons covered under either of the two current plans: those who contribute under a payroll deduction scheme or those under the subsidized scheme.

As a result of this decision, the CNSS has issued notifications of this extension to the Health Service Providers (called ARS), the National Health Service (SeNaSa), and the Network of Health Service Providers (PSS).

The news comes at a time when newspapers reported on the tragic series of accidents on the Coral Freeway in the eastern part of the Dominican Republic. This past Saturday morning, three accidents left a toll of three dead and ten were injured. Trucks, buses and cars were involved in the accidents in the early morning hours. And, of course, in just two weeks, the country is once again in Holy Week, the most traveled domestic holiday.
