An international Fly-In, Rally Aereo RD 2022 organized by Chaterine Tobenas marks the first of many more actions to be taken in the short term to promote the Dominican destination as an atrractive destination for small plane tourism.
“We want this type of Fly In to become more and more common. When you come to the Caribbean on your tours, you have to make a stop in the Dominican Republic, because it offers you the required facilities and you can take advantage of our beautiful natural attractions,” said Victor Pichardo, director of the Airport Agency upon greeting the first arrivals.
Small airplanes from the United States and Canada have come for this event that has government sponsorship and backing of Aerodom, the airport operator for Samana and Las Americas. From Monday 28 to 30, they will be in Montecristi, and from 30 to 1, in Santo Domingo. Later, from April 1 to 4, they will be in Samaná.
The Dominican Airport Agency (DA) is working towards the goal of turning the Dominican Republic into a leading destination for small plane tourism. The Dominican Republic has eight international airports:
Las Americas and La Isabela (Santo Domingo), Casa de Campo (La Romana), Punta Cana, Gregorio Luperon (Puerto Plata), Cibao (Santiago de los Caballeros), El Catey (Samana), Maria Montez (Barahona) and El Catey (Samana). It also has domestic landing facilities at Cabo Rojo (Pedernales), Osvaldo Virgil (Montecristi), Arroyo Barril (Samana) and Constanza.
